SOCP Webinar—Register by Feb. 16: Captain Jim Staples on Understanding the Risk of Carrying Electric Vehicles on a Vessel
MM&P member Captain Jim Staples will address the risk of carrying electric vehicles during a SOCP webinar on Thursday, Feb. 17, from 1200 to 1230.
Please register by COB, Wednesday, Feb. 16 to participate. You will receive meeting login information after you register.
The 30-minute introductory presentation will answer the following questions:
— what do we need to know about electric vehicles?
— how do we train the crew on carrying electric vehicles?
— what tools are needed?
— what Class Fire is an electric vehicle considered?
— how well are we prepared for an electric vehicle incident?

Staples has over 38 years of experience at sea with 23 years of command experience operating worldwide.
He is a member of the NFPA and certified by the NFPA in Responding to Hybrid Electric Vehicle Incidents, Responding to Gaseous Fueled Vehicle Incidents, Responding to Fuel Cell Vehicle Incidents, and Alternative Fuel Vehicle Safety Training.
He is an instructor at MITAGS, where he teaches Vessel Security (ISPS), STCW, and safety classes.
He is currently developing training and education programs, incident prevention, and early warning detection of the existing risks posed by electric vehicles.
