Vice President, United Inland Membership Group–Great Lakes & Gulf Region

Tom Bell has been vice president of the MM&P Great Lakes & Gulf region since 2016, representing maritime industry professionals working on “Lakers,” tugboats and other specialized vessels on the Great Lakes, in inland waters, in the Gulf of Mexico and in San Juan Harbor.

Before his election as vice president, he served for two years as the union’s regional representative on the Great Lakes. Prior to coming ashore, he was a captain with Grand River Navigation.

He holds a captain’s license, an unlimited Great Lakes mate’s license, a bachelor of science degree and an associate of applied science degree from the Great Lakes Maritime Academy.

He is a member of the Propeller Club of the United States and the International Federation of Shipmasters’ Associations.

Michael Riordan, Vice President of the Atlantic Maritime Group hails from New York

and has many years of experience in the maritime industry. Coming into the MM&P family

while working on various tugs with Moran Towing, he was an elected Delegate before being

elected as Vice President in 2020.

He credits his team of representatives for the

education and experience they share with him.

“Big Mike” is married to his wonderful wife Susan, has children Vincent and Kathryn and four grandchildren that he says are “the culminatinon of a long voyage, God bless them.”
