Members of MM&P’s affiliate in Panama–Unión de Capitanes y Oficiales de Cubierta (UCOC)—have elected a new leadership team.

UCOC represents tugboat captains and associated vessel personnel who work on the Panama Canal.

“The newly elected officers are dynamic and highly motivated,” said MM&P President Don Marcus.

“They are ideally suited to protect their members in their ongoing battle with the Panama Canal Authority which continues to prioritize profits over safety in the New Canal.”

“MM&P congratulates and gives our best wishes to the new administration of UCOC,” he said.

“We are committed to working with them to protect the health, safety and working conditions of every UCOC member.”

The following officers were elected in a vote that took place on Dec. 12: Secretary General Agustin Ureña, Sub-Secretary General Roberto R. Feurtado, Secretary Treasurer Luis Estribi, Organizer North District Fernando Ramos, Secretary for Security, Safety & Environment Wilfredo Whitaker, Secretary for Public Relations Ivan De La Guardia, Secretary of Education, Culture and Recreation Daniel Camazon, Organizer South District Pedro Mejia and Secretary of Ethics Cristobal Falquez.

The newly elected officials will serve two-year terms.
